I Quit Social Media Cold Turkey—and It Led to Inception-Level Sleep, a Creative Breakthrough, and, Oh Yeah, a Baby!

phone face down

Everyone’s back from their Euro summer, recharged, and ready to dive back into the grind. But before you get caught up in the chaos of *life*, have you stopped to think about how you want to finish out the year? Without the noise of other people’s vacations, achievements, or highlight reels influencing you? Here's a wild idea: put your phone down, log off social media, and actually reflect. Let’s see what happens when it’s just you and your own thoughts.

“It’s amazing how clearly you can hear yourself when you’re not listening to the rest of the world.”

I took an impromptu break from social media because, let’s face it—I was addicted. And surprise, surprise, things changed. Here's what went down:

deleting social media

1. The Work

You know, the work I thought was impossible because I’m a pregnant mom with a toddler and an infant. I magically found time to do things like *create* a social media plan instead of endlessly consuming other people’s content. Who knew time management existed outside of scrolling?

2. Comfort in My Own Thoughts

Slowly but surely, my ideas started sticking. Instead of immediately dismissing them or deciding they weren’t “good enough,” I gave them a chance to breathe. The magic? I wasn’t logging in to compare my life to someone else’s curated BS.

“It’s amazing how clearly you can hear yourself when you’re not listening to the rest of the world.”

3. Inception-Level Sleep

I'm talking *deep* sleep—the kind where you're drooling on your pillow and probably snoring if you ask my partner. It was a dream state that felt like I was diving into five layers of sleep, just like Inception. Waking up refreshed was a whole new experience. And instead of killing that vibe first thing in the morning with a mindless scroll, I actually *kept* that energy.

4. Checking Off the To-Do List

Things I’d been procrastinating for *months*? Yeah, they got done. We finally started that family garden we’ve been talking about for ages. I called that relative who’s been on my mind forever. Oh, and I finally tried out ChatGPT after hearing all the hype—it didn’t disappoint.

5. And Then… I Had a Baby

This one has nothing to do with social media... or maybe it does? Either way, our family of four became a family of five.

Welcome, Mira Sloane

Mira Sloane

She’s perfect, and my capacity for unconditional love keeps expanding in ways I didn’t think were possible. Being in the hospital, bored and off social media forced me to take a look around and notice the abundance of my life. I wasn't consumed with something funny, or perfectly curated. I soaked up how perfect my new daughter is. I reflected on how abundant life and love is for me right now.

Here’s the thing—quitting social media cold turkey wasn’t just about finding time or being more productive. It was about *clearing space* in my head, space I didn’t even realize I needed. It was about stopping the cycle of comparison and actually tuning in to what *I* want, what *my* priorities are.

What do you want for the rest of this year? More doom-scrolling and wondering why your life doesn’t look like someone else’s highlight reel? Or maybe, just maybe, you take a break. I’m not saying you’ll have a baby, but who knows what you’ll discover when you let the world take a backseat for a while.
